SPECIAL BLOG VISIT FROM AUTHOR J.L WILSON

Hello there --

Barb has graciously allowed me a day here and there to blog with her. I'm J L Wilson, a fellow author who knows Barb from several online groups where we both have memberships. I've got a few books out in digital and a few in print, with more coming soon.

I write romantic suspense and what I call 'sexy/cozy' mysteries (short on gore, a hint of sensuality, and a touch of gray: all my heroes and heroines are in their 40s and 50s). My books all come out in download form first, then in print later.

My current book in print was written during a truly frugal time of my life, when I was unemployed for six months. I spent my time job hunting, walking at the mall to get exercise, and writing 2 books (both of which released last year). I decided to take the frustration I was feeling about job hunting and channel it into my writing. Some villains in my books look very like people I interviewed with, and a later book I wrote (after I found a job) tells about someone who was laid off and decides to get revenge (I haven't tried to sell that one yet. I hope it'll find a home next year).

Once I started getting published, I realized that in all of my books, there's a key scene that involves cooking. So I came up with recipe cards for all characters and plan to do a "Character Cookbook" someday. If you want to try some of the recipes, go to http://www.jayellwilson.com/recipes.htm. I've got a few of them there that you can print.

In the coming months, I'll be blogging occasionally about my books, the characters and their recipes, and other topics that come to mind. So stay tuned for more from me and my characters!

RECIPE ~ PENELOPE’S MUFFINS

Recipe from J.L Wilson’s novel, FORGIVENESS (ISBN 9781419910906) http://www.cerridwenpress.com/productpage.asp?ISBN=9781419910906
James killed Penelope in their first life together… can he obtain her forgiveness in the second?

Penelope’s Muffins

2 eggs beaten
1 cup sour cream
½ cup butter, melted
1 cup creamed corn
1 tbsp sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup yellow cornmeal
1½ tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
4 oz grated cheddar cheese
1 tbsp chopped green chili pepper

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Generously grease muffin tin. In a bowl mix the beaten eggs, sour cream, melted butter, creamed corn, and sugar. In a separate bowl mix the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, soda, and salt.

Stir the dry ingredients into the egg and cream mixture, mixing until just combined (don't over-mix). Stir in the cheese and chilies.

Pour the batter into the prepared muffin tin. Bake until the muffins spring back when touched and are golden, about 15 minutes.
